Two studio apartments were joined to create a spacious one-bedroom apartment. finish worked with the client, architect and general contractor to design, plan and oversee this renovation.

From the onset, budget, material and function decided the necessary moves for this project. Both the kitchen and master bath were enlarged and a simple selection of materials was used throughout the space for a cohesive appearance.

By removing hallway closets, finish was able to enlarge the kitchen, include additional appliances and articulate new storage space and surface area. With the kitchen’s 5’ x 6’ footprint remaining, a concealed dishwasher and full size stove were added to the space. Under-counter refrigeration with an enlarged countertop merge into the dining and living areas but still keep the space from feeling crammed. The cabinets were made from oiled teak and contrast the clean and airy white lacquer and glass upper cabinets and pullout pantry. Slate and concrete balance the vibrant figuring of the granite countertop and backsplash. finish custom cast the concrete countertop off-site.

finish expanded the master bath using the same palette throughout the apartment. Teak, slate, porcelain and smooth white tiles were used for their contrasting colors, patterns and textural qualities. Additional teak cabinets were made to take advantage of storage opportunities.

Working daily with the general contractor and client, finish supervised the progress of the project. Specific elements in the kitchen and bathroom were designed and installed by finish.
